While Doubtful about Appearing at the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships, Ahsan / Hendra Are Ready to Compete

Reportase.one, Jakarta – Indonesian men’s doubles, Mohamad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan are ready to compete at the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on April 25-30.

The veteran pair, nicknamed The Daddies, were once in doubt about their ability to appear in a BWF Super 1000 level tournament because Ahsan suffered a left knee injury in the All England final match last March. But the healing process went smoothly so they are ready to compete in this Asian Championship.

“The condition of my left knee is now quite good but I still need treatment, I still have to be treated every day,” said Ahsan when met at the PBSI Cipayung National Training Center, East Jakarta, Wednesday, April 19, 2023.

“Earlier it was used for training but there is still a bad feeling. The percentage is 60-70 percent, hopefully in the future it will get better,” he added.

Ahsan hopes that his condition will be more ready for the match even though the preparation time is tight.

“The preparation was really tight because I had to rest for more than two weeks. Then I started training from scratch again, starting from light training but getting here I think the progress is quite good and hopefully later when the match I will be more ready,” said Ahsan.

Don’t Set High Targets

Ahsan’s condition, who has just recovered from injury and tight preparations, has prevented The Daddies from setting too high targets at the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships.

“From me, the training preparations have been maximized, but Ahsan isn’t 100 percent yet, so it’s just a matter of talking about strategy on the field. How you want to play depends on what your opponent will be like,” said Hendra.

“Our target is also not too grandiose, the top eight or semifinals are good enough now,” said Hendra.
