Update from the Ministry of Health, the Arcturus Covid-19 Case in RI is at this level

Jakarta, Reportase – The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) reported 5 additional cases of Covid-19 subvariant Omicron XBB 1.16 or what is called Arcturus.

With these additional cases, to date, there have been a total of 7 cases of the Arcturus subvariant in Indonesia.

“The new cases of Arcturus are seven people, before there were only two,” said Ministry of Health spokesperson Mohammad Syahril in a press conference, Monday (17/4/2023).

Of the two initial cases, one has a history of overseas travel from India, while the other is local. The two initial cases of this subvariant have been declared cured.

Syahril conveyed that the five additional cases came from two regions, namely from Surabaya and Jakarta.

“Two are from Surabaya and three are in Jakarta. Thank God, all of them are in a state of mild symptoms,” he explained.

Syahril further said that this new subvariant had spread in various countries. All of them are marked by a new subvariant, Arcturus, whose origins originate in India.

“There are 29 countries that have reported an increase in cases, the five biggest being India, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand and Australia,” he explained.

On the one hand, in Indonesia itself there has been an increase in cases in the past week, the number of cases reaching 1,000. It’s just that the death rate and hospitalization are still under control.

“There is indeed an increase in cases, even on April 15 it reached 1,000,” he said.

Even though there was an increase in cases, he said, the death rate did not exceed the limit required by WHO, the standard was below 1 per 100,000 population. While those who are treated are also above 5 per 100 thousand population. This means that even though there is an increase in this parameter, it still shows that the numbers are still stable.

“On the one hand, this is a record for all of us as a WHO warning that the pandemic is still around and there is a possibility that there will be an increase in cases due to new variants.” he concluded.
