MOSCOW (Reportase One) – The United States (US) and its allies have supplied Kiev with billions of dollars worth of weapons that Russia blames for prolonging the conflict in Ukraine.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva warned Washington against further fueling conflict in Ukraine, a country where Russia is still continuing its special military operation.
Lula told reporters after his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing that “the US should stop encouraging war and start talking about peace.”
“The European Union needs to start talks on peace so we can convince Putin (Russian president) and Zelenskyy (Ukrainian president) that all sides want peace, and the current war is only interesting for both of them,” Lula said.
During the meeting in Beijing, Lula and Xi also discussed the idea of forming a group of like-minded countries to deal with the Ukraine conflict.
“I have a theory that I have defended with Macron (President of France), Olaf Scholz (Chancellor of Germany) and Biden (President of the US), and yesterday, we discussed it with Xi Jinping,” said Lula.
“We need to form a group of countries that have the determination to find a way for peace to be created,” said the Brazilian president, asserting.
Lula’s statement followed a statement by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre that the US would continue to supply military aid to Ukraine.
Washington and a number of its allies have stepped up their military assistance to Ukraine, soon after Russia began military operations specifically in the Black Sea country.
Russia has repeatedly warned countries that send arms to Ukraine that it regards these arms shipments as legitimate targets, and that such assistance will only prolong the Ukrainian conflict.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also emphasized that the actions of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) countries in arming and training the Ukrainian army is a form of direct involvement in the conflict.
