Reportase.one, Jakarta – Indonesian men’s singles badminton athlete Syabda Perkasa Belawa died in an accident on the Pemalang toll road, Central Java, on Monday morning, March 20, 2023.

The Central Executive of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) has confirmed this news. Syabda had an accident while traveling to Sragen to visit his grandmother’s grave.

“The PP PBSI extended family expresses its deepest condolences for the passing of one of Indonesia’s young athletes, Syabda Perkasa Belawa,” wrote a PP PBSI statement.

Syabda started his career as a badminton player by joining the PB Djarum Kudus badminton club in 2013. He then received a call to the national training center (pelatnas) in 2018 until now.

The men’s singles player took part in several junior championships, such as the 2018 Asian World Championships and the 2019 World Junior Championships before debuting in the 2022 Thomas Cup senior tournament.

His performance at the Thomas Cup 2022 received the spotlight. Coming down in the final match as the third singles, Syabda was the winner for the Indonesian badminton team over South Korea in the final match of Group A in the team tournament.

Syabda has also appeared in several senior events even though he did not gain a medal, such as the Indonesia Masters 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and the Indonesia Masters Super 100 in the same year except 2022.

With various achievements and participation in a number of tournaments, Syabda Perkasa Belawa is ranked 90th in the BWF world.
