Reportase.one – Indonesian mixed doubles Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati did not set grandiose targets in their first appearance at the BWF World Tour Super 1,000 All England Open 2023 after making a sweet debut.
The two of them had their first match by defeating German representative Jones Rafly Jansen/Linda Efler with a score of 21-19, 21-16 at the Birmingham Arena, England, Tuesday (14/3) local time.
“Hopefully we can play looser because this is our first All England. We want to prove we can with our game after the results have not been good in the last few tournaments. We want to play all out first,” said Lisa in a written statement received in Jakarta, Wednesday .
In their debut in the world’s oldest badminton tournament, Rehan/Lisa needed 37 minutes to close the match with two straight games. Even though it was considered an easy win, they agreed that they needed to evaluate the game.

“The first time I entered the field it felt amazing, the hall was really big. But playing it was still not good because we felt that the adaptation to the shuttlecock was not optimal,” added Lisa.
“We are still playing too hastily, even though if we can be patient, they will also make their own mistakes in the end. In the future, we want to be even more calm so that all our games can come out,” Rehan said in response.
In the first game, Rehan/Lisa were caught off guard. After winning 20-14, they lost five straight points. Fortunately, calm allowed them to get a point in that crucial situation, 21-19.
The victory in the first game made the world number 15 pair even more comfortable playing in the second game.
“We always remind you to play patiently and calmly, looking for points and continuing to attack, especially in the first game after game points when they can catch up to 20-19. I said we are still ahead, there is only one point left, how come it’s time to set,” said Rehan.

In the second game, Rehan/Lisa tried to anticipate the serve. They keep pressing the opponent. “Because if we have too much defense, we won’t feel good either,” said Lisa.
