RI received an award from Türkiye for its post-earthquake humanitarian mission

Jakarta (Reportase One) – The Indonesian government received a medal of appreciation from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his post-earthquake rescue services.

Award Order of Superior Sacrifice Medal which is the highest award given by the Turkish government it was awarded in an official event “the State Superior Sacrifice Medal Award Ceremony” which was attended by 90 foreign representatives in Türkiye on 24-25 April 2023.

“On behalf of the Indonesian government, we express our gratitude for the awarding of the award medal from the Turkish government,” said Special Staff of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Brigadier General Lukmansyah who is the Head of Operations for the Indonesian Humanitarian Mission in Turkey, according to a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara, Thursday.

Apart from Indonesia, the award was also given to other countries that assisted in search and rescue (SAR) missions and post-earthquake humanitarian missions in the Kahramanmaras and Hatay areas on February 6, 2023.

The event which took place at the Bestepe National Congress and Culture Center, Ankara began with a speech from President Erdoğan who expressed his appreciation to the SAR team and foreign humanitarian missions who had assisted Turkey after the earthquake.

Erdoğan also appreciated the sincerity of the SAR team and foreign humanitarian missions who had sacrificed and continued to support Turkey in the difficult times after the earthquake.

“The Turkish nation has always been one of the first to attend when Indonesia needed it, from the pre-independence era to the Aceh tsunami, Palu earthquake, to the COVID-19 variant of the Delta outbreak. It is a pleasure for Indonesia to be able to be present when Turkey needs the help of its brothers after the February earthquake. then,” said Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey Lalu Muhamad Iqbal.

In response to the Turkish earthquake, the Indonesian government has dispatched a SAR team and an emergency medical team, established a field hospital, sent humanitarian logistical assistance including 59 containers of food, and deployed the Indonesian Air Force’s Hercules C-130 emergency logistics transport for more than a month.

For Indonesia, the humanitarian mission in Türkiye is the largest in history.
