Reportase.one – Entering the middle of the month of Ramadan, the trend of public spending continues to increase. Mandiri Spending Index (MSI) data reveals an increase in public spending both in terms of value and in terms of volume.
The Public Expenditure Value Index as of 26 March 2023 was recorded at 136.4 or an increase from the end of the previous month which was around 125. This also increased 4.2% when compared to the Public Expenditure Value Index as of 26 March 2022 which was 130.9.
Head of Mandiri Institute Teguh Yudo Wicaksono explained, the increase in the public spending index illustrates that household consumption will accelerate in the second quarter of 2023. In fact, there is a possibility that household consumption growth in the second quarter of 2023 will be higher than the growth in household consumption in the second quarter of 2022 which was 5.51% on an annual basis.
“Hopefully inflation will be more under control entering April 2023 to June 2023. If prices are under control, then household consumption will be higher than in the second quarter of 2022,” said Yudo.

Previously, a survey conducted by The Trade Desk showed that as many as 9 out of 10 Indonesians plan to shop during Ramadan this year. Around 80% of digital consumers will maintain and even increase their use of digital services in 2023.
This is also supported by data recently released by e-commerce from Indonesia, Tokopedia. Tokopedia’s internal data shows that in several product categories, for example Fashion, there has been a significant increase in transactions.
For example, transactions for women’s scarves have increased almost 6 times, men’s koko shirts have increased more than 5 times and Muslim family clothing has increased more than 7 times in the first two weeks of Ramadan.
With the high number of transactions, especially through digital services, according to the Secretary General (Secretary General) of the Indonesian MSME Association (Akumindo), Edy Misero, goods delivery services have become an important requirement to support the buying and selling process.
“This is because without adequate logistics and e-commerce platform support, the operational process of sending goods from MSMEs to the public as buyers will be hampered,” said Edi.

Edi further said that MSME actors also continue to encourage the development of the logistics industry in Indonesia. In fact, the logistics industry and e-commerce support each other in supporting economic activities, especially for MSMEs.
Tokopedia’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Nuraini Razak said that in order to help businesses fulfill soaring orders and reach a wider market without having to move to big cities, Tokopedia presents Served Tokopedia.
“This order fulfillment service allows sellers to deposit products at Tokopedia’s smart warehouses in areas with high demand. Seller’s operational activities, from receiving orders, product packaging, delivery to couriers, to handling problems if needed, will be served by Tokopedia,” said Nuraini .
Tokopedia data shows that in the first two weeks of Ramadan this year, compared to last year, sellers using the Hyperlocal approach and Served by Tokopedia experienced an average sales increase of almost 2x.
“We also saw that food parcel transactions through Tokopedia Service increased by almost 3.5 times,” explained Nuraini.
Thanks to this initiative, inter-island transactions on Tokopedia are also reported to have increased significantly. Nuraini explained that Banyuasin (South Sumatra), Kampar (Riau Islands) and East Lombok (NTB) were some of the areas with the highest increase in inter-island transactions on Tokopedia during early Ramadan 2023, with an average increase in transactions of more than 2 times.
“Kuningan (West Java), Palangkaraya (Central Kalimantan) and Tabanan (Bali) were recorded as regions with the highest increase in transactions using same day and instant delivery at Tokopedia, with an average increase of more than 2 times,” concluded Nuraini.
