Profile of the Banyuwangi INKA Factory, Starting in 2018 Inaugurated in 2023

Reportase.one – As is well known, PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) started operating factories or workshops in Banyuwangi Regency starting last Thursday (9/3/2023). To meet the workforce needs, the INKA workshop in Banyuwangi has collaborated with the Vocational Training Center (BLK) in Banyuwangi.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of BUMN II, Kartika Wiryoadmojo, accompanied by the Banyuwangi Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), on Thursday, March 9 2023.

The inauguration of the factory also coincided with the signing of a contract between PT INKA and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) to procure hundreds of train units.

Reportedly, PT INKA’s workshop in Banyuwangi will make a car body (train body) from the procurement contract. Gradually, a 4-kilometer test track will also be built and other facilities, where these facilities will be used to test carriages or locomotives that have been completed.

Factory Profile INKA Banyuwangi

PT Industri Kereta Api or abbreviated as PT INKA is a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) which is engaged in the manufacture of bodywork and carousels. Apparently, PT INKA was established on May 18, 1981 and started operating on August 29, 1981.

In Banyuwangi itself, this factory began to be built in stages starting at the end of November 2018, where PT INKA first held outreach to the community before factory construction began.

At least two large companies from two different countries are involved and collaborating in this project, namely PT Inka and Stadler Rail (Swiss rail manufacturer). Construction has started in 2020 with a capacity of 250 units per year and will reach 500 units in 2025 and 1000 units per year in 2030.

Deputy Minister Kartika Wiryoadmojo said that the largest train factory in Southeast Asia was built to increase the production of export-quality trains. The presence of the workshop will automatically encourage job creation.
