Reportase.one, Jakarta – ANOC World Beach Games 2023 Bali confirmed to continue as scheduled. This was stated by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo after meeting with the Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster at the Governor’s Office of Bali, Denpasar on Friday, April 14, 2023.
The chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI / NOC Indonesia) Raja Sapta Oktohari was also present at the meeting. Koster expressed his support for holding the ANOC World Beach Games 2023 in Bali while upholding the Indonesian constitution.
“Just now we had a discussion with Mr Menpora and Mr Okto. We discussed how the World Beach Games would run well and the management side would run smoothly,” said Koster as quoted from the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ official statement.
“Therefore, there has been an agreement that Bali will host the Bali Provincial Government and I, of course, I will give full support so that this event runs smoothly and is successful. The point is that the World Beach Games are in accordance with the constitutional mandate,” Koster added.
Menpora Dito welcomed the support given by Koster for this international multi-sport event. His meeting with Koster resulted in an agreement to support the Provincial Government of Bali.
“Alhamdulillah, in the atmosphere of Ramadan, we established friendship and were able to achieve results that became a meeting point, namely an agreement on this matter,” he said.
“The results of the discussion brought blessings, there was one meeting and it was agreed that the Provincial Government of Bali and the Governor of Bali support one thousand percent of the holding of the 2023 World Beach Games,” said the Menpora.
Previously, it was reported that Koster had again refused the presence of Israeli athletes at the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games (AWBG). He also revealed the basis for making this decision.
“(Based on) the constitution, the second basis is Foreign Minister Regulation Number 3 (year) 2019. (Indonesia) as an entity itself is regulated in the article that the Minister of Foreign Affairs may not sing the (Israeli) national anthem,” he said on Wednesday, April 5 2023.
Koster also rejected the arrival of the Israeli national team at the 2023 U-20 World Cup. He sent an official letter to the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) on March 14, 2023.
His attitude then caused a polemic until finally FIFA revoked Indonesia’s status as the host because it was considered that the government had intervened and was threatened with sanctions.
The ANOC World Beach Games 2023 will take place in Bali from 5-15 August 2023 and will be held in Indonesia for the first time. A total of 1,554 athletes competed in the third biggest sporting event after the Olympics.
