Indonesian Embassy in Sudan: There were no Indonesian victims in the shooting incident in Khartoum

Jakarta (Reportase One) – The Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum stated that there were no Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were victims in the shooting incident that took place in Khartoum, Sudan.

On Saturday, there was gunfire between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia at several points in the capital Khartoum.

The incident was allegedly caused by differences of opinion between the military and the RSF regarding the process of security reform and integration of the RSF into the Sudanese military as part of the ongoing political process, according to a press release received from the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum, Saturday.

According to the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum, there are around 1,209 Indonesian citizens (WNI) living in Sudan.

The Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum issued an appeal to all Indonesian citizens living in Sudan to remain calm and always increase their vigilance and avoid hot spots, and not leave their homes and stay away from windows.

The Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum also appealed to each other to maintain communication between fellow Indonesian citizens and to report matters that were happening around them to the Indonesian Embassy.

Contacts at the Indonesian Embassy for Indonesian citizens in an emergency are +249 90 797 8701 and +249 90 007 9060.

Previously, according to a Reuters report, the dispute between the two sides came to the fore on Thursday (13/4), when the military said that the RSF’s recent movements were uncoordinated and illegal.

It was also reported on Saturday that the RSF called the army’s act a “brutal attack” and called for condemnation of the act.
