Jakarta, Reportase – Meta boss, Mark Zuckerberg, is tried by employees. They asked for an explanation regarding the two rounds of mass layoffs carried out by the parent companies of Facebook and Instagram in the last 4 months.
In townhall which Zuckerberg attended, Washington Post reporting workers reveal about the stress they have been facing in recent times. The 38-year-old man was also asked if he was sure about Meta’s future after cutting 21,000 employees.
However, Zuckerberg’s answer was not unsatisfactory. “I think this is all determined by the final result that we can all give,” he said, quoted from SF Gates, Monday (20/3/2023).
Zuckerberg also justified the reasons for Meta’s second layoff due to financial challenges and changes to Apple’s ad privacy which apparently impacted many social media including those within the company. The last one is related to the economic climate that has indeed hit the world in recent times.
Regarding the fears of employees, Zuckerberg is trying to understand it. He said it was natural for them to feel completely uncertain. However, he asked employees to continue working as usual while waiting for the results of the second round of layoffs.
“That doesn’t mean we can stop working amidst these conditions,” he said.
Not only Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, who is the boss of Google, also tried his employees. More than 1,400 workers sent Pichai a letter asking for concrete action by the boss following his layoffs earlier this year.
One of them is related to freezing the recruitment of new employees. On the other hand, Pichai must prioritize workers affected by layoffs to return to work.
“Give priority to redeploying Alphabet employees who have been laid off recently. Prioritize internal transfer options, prioritize access to employment without the need for re-interviews and agree to agree on a fair severance package,” the letter read.
