Reportase.one, Jakarta – Jakarta men’s volleyball team LavAni Allo Bank has decided not to participate in the 2023 Asian Volleyball Championship or AVC Men’s Volleyball Championship 2023 which will take place in Manama, Bahrain, on 14-21 May.
LavAni, who won the PLN Mobile Proliga 2023, received an offer from the Central Board of the Indonesian Volleyball Association (PP PBVSI) to compete in the prestigious volleyball event on the Yellow Continent. However, they finally decided to reject it.
“LavAni received an offer from PBVSI to take part in the 2023 AVC Men’s Volleyball Championship tournament. However, due to the very short preparation time after the 2023 SEA Games (Cambodia), LavAni decided not to go,” LavAni’s manager Ossy Dermawan told Antara, Wednesday.
As is known, five of LavAni’s top players, namely Dio Zulfikri, Fahri Septian Pratama, Muhammad Malizi, Boy Arnez, and Hendra Kurniawan were called to strengthen for Indonesia at the XXXII/2023 SEA Games in Cambodia which will be rolling on May 5-17.
This is the reason LavAni decided not to appear in the 2023 AVC Men’s Volleyball Championship, considering the relatively short preparation time.
“The SEA Games National Team will only return to Indonesia on May 8-9 while this competition will take place on May 14 in Bahrain. There are five of our main players competing in the SEA Games,” said Ossy.
“For LavAni, the team’s preparation for a championship of this size must be done very carefully, especially with the name of the nation. We apologize to all of the community, especially LavAni supporters,” said Ossy.
As a substitute, continued Ossy, LavAni will appear in the ASEAN 203 League or South East Asian V League which will be rolled out in Indonesia on July 21-23 and in the Philippines July 28-30.
Meanwhile, the team that will replace LavAni in the 2023 AVC Men’s Volleyball Championship is Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi who are runners-up to the 2023 Proliga.
“We also convey congratulations and success for Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi in this championship,” said Ossy.
