Reportase.one – Honda team racer in World Superbike (WSBK) Iker Lecuona admits that he can’t wait to return to the Spanish MotoGP to become a temporary replacement for the main rider for the Repsol Honda team, Marc Marquez, who is absent due to injury.
“Firstly, I want to wish Marc all the best in his recovery. He was a reference in MotoGP and I think not only the fans, but also the riders will miss him very much. For me, of course, this is a great opportunity to return to MotoGP and race with a dream team. me,” said Lecuona, quoted from Repsol Honda’s official statement, Thursday.
Even though he is very excited to return to the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit, Spain, this weekend, Lecuona admits that he is quite nervous because he has to replace Marquez and represent the team’s performance with Joan Mir. He considered, the opportunity is also a burden in itself.
Moreover, the Spaniard is now focusing on WSBK, which has a motorbike with quite different technical specifications from MotoGP.

“Doing it in front of a Spanish crowd is something special. But we have to be realistic, it’s going to be a very tough and demanding weekend. I’ve spent this year and last year completely focused on WSBK with Team HRC and now I have to get used to everything different in MotoGP and learning a new motorbike, namely the Honda RC213V,” explained Lecuona.
“No matter what happens, I will do my best and let’s see what happens.”
Meanwhile, Marquez is still recovering from the broken first metacarpal of his right hand he suffered at the Portuguese Grand Prix.
Both Honda, Marquez, and the related medical team are targeting the older brother of Alex Marquez to recover soon and fully recover so he can compete at the French Grand Prix, May 12-14.
On the other hand, Joan Mir is trying to give his best and improve his performance at the Spanish GP.
