Tangerang (Reportase One) – The Soekarno-Hatta Airport City Police (Polresta) thwarted the smuggling of 67.8 kilograms (kg) of animal skin scales classified as protected by the pangolin species, Wednesday.
From these arrests, the team detained and investigated three suspects with the initials ASH, an Egyptian citizen and two Indonesian citizens with the initials AT (41) and AS (43).
“The suspects were masterminded by foreign nationals (foreigners) from Egypt. The three were arrested by the police at the Soekarno Hatta Airport Cargo Terminal,” said Kasatreskrim Polresta Soetta Airport, Kompol Reza Fahlevi in ​​Tangerang, Wednesday.
He explained that from the results of the investigation, the gang admitted that they had been carrying out the action for more than three months.

Meanwhile, he said, the suspects carried out their modus operandi by trading through social media platforms at quite high prices.
“The smuggled pangolins come from West Java and Banten. The suspects sell the smuggled products via social media Facebook,” he said.
From the hands of the suspects, he continued, evidence was secured of five mobile phones, two savings books, an ATM card, a digital scale, Rp. 64 million in cash, and 67.8 kg of pangolin scales.
He added that for their actions the suspects were charged with Article 21 juncto Article 40 Paragraph 2 of Law Number 5/1990 concerning Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems with a penalty of 5 years in prison and a fine of IDR 100 million.
“We apply Article 21 in conjunction with Article 40 Paragraph 2 of Law Number 5/1990 concerning Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems,” he said.
